If you are somewhat new to Katy, then you may not know Katy started in part as a farming town and water fowl hunting mecca, Cane Island, on the prairie. Its main harvest was rice. You can still see some of the rice and grain dryers near downtown. To celebrate this rich history, the city throws a huge Rice Harvest Festival every year. This year the festival will take place October 13, 2018 in Katy. The second weekend in October. You won’t be able to miss it when you head that way. Like I said, it’s huge. It’s fun for the entire family with food, rides, unique arts, crafts, and music. Vendors should inquire soon. 281-391-8653
