Q: Is the Katy area likely to flood again?
A: Hi Patrick,
YES!!! When we have another 800 year storm like Hurricane Harvey take the same path, at the same speed and dump the same amount of rain, given the current drainage, then yes, the same areas are very likely to flood again.
HOWEVER, if you take that same set of conditions and move it 50 miles to the north, south, east or west, then those areas are likely to flood and Katy may not flood.
If you live in the Houston area, then there is always the possibility of your home flooding. I am a native Houstonian and I have seen afternoon thunderstorms flood areas that have never before flooded.
Three words of advice….Buy flood insurance. It’s $1.23 a day in most cases.
Until next month,
