The Woodlands was the number two best-selling master-planned community and the number four master-planned community in the United States in 2010. One visit to the Woodlands, TX will leave you wondering why it wasn’t ranked higher.
Initially established by George P. Mitchell in 1974, the Woodlands, TX is approximately 32 miles north of Houston along Interstate 45. As of the 2010 Census, The Woodlands real estate boasted a population of just over 105,000 residents and a total area of 43.9 square miles. Despite its close proximity to one of America’s greatest cities and its population of over 105,000 residents, this community manages to maintain an idyllic atmosphere that truly embodies the word “enclave”.
The Woodlands is further divided into nine residential villages and two districts. Each individual district is a small town unto itself within the larger community. These individual communities provide all the infrastructure and amenities that residents could desire such as grocery stores, places of worship, shopping centers, parks and recreational facilities.
The community as a whole boasts several amenities that are available to residents of all the villages such as two YMCAs, a world-class golf course, several hundred miles of hiking, walking and biking trails and a 200-acre lake.
The Woodlands Town Center is the heart of the community. This unique, professionally planned and designed urban center is both beautiful and functional. It is home to a variety of shops, restaurants and offices that are often owned and operated by residents of the Woodlands. It’s a great place to spend an afternoon having lunch and doing a little bit of shopping before biking or walking back to your house.
Children that live in the Woodlands attend school in one of three school districts: the Conroe Independent School District, the Tomball Independent School District and the Magnolia Independent School District. Each public school system has received several awards over the years for both academic and athletic achievement. There are also several private schools within the area.
There are many reasons that the Woodlands is the second bestselling master-planned community in Texas and the fourth in the entire United States, and the continued attention to detail by the community planners and leaders is perhaps the most important. It is what separates the Woodlands from every other master-planned community in the country.
